私は二人の娘を持つ父である。 ショッピングセンターとビジネス街、高層マンションを横目に進むと、 程よく整備された多摩川を望む開放的な空間がある。 私たち親子はここでよく親子の時間を過ごしている。 何度も足を運ぶうちに、 そこに集う人々の姿に娘の将来を思い浮かべるようになった。 時には青春を謳歌する学生を見ていて、羨ましく思うこともある。 いつの日からか、私は川辺に集う人々が、 『どんな時を過ごしているのか』『なぜここにやってきたのか』 そして、 『ここで何を得たのだろうか』と、人々の心情に興味を持ち始めた。 世界各地どんな国でも、川や海などの水辺を好む人々は多い。 地球のおよそ70%が水でできており、人間もまた65％が水でできている。 人は水がないと生きていけない。 古来、日本人は川や海に神を見てきた。 五穀豊穣に水は必須であり、また穢れを祓う力があると信じられてきた。 これは海外においても同様で、 古代エジプト人はナイル河を神として拝め、 現在でも信仰深いヒンズー教徒はガンジス河で沐浴を行うと罪が清めると信じられている。 水辺に来ると気持ちが落ち着き、川のせせらぎを聞くと癒やされる。 朝一杯の水を飲むと頭がすっきりし、風呂に入ると疲れがとれる。 現代のストレス社会において、 人々は水が持つ不思議な力を無意識に求めている気がする。 本シリーズのBlue Mindとは、 水辺で過ごす人々の心情の変化を映し撮った作品である。

Tokyo’s Futakotamagawa is known for its bustling shopping centers, office buildings, and high-rise apartments, but it also offers serene open spaces with a picturesque view of the Tama River, creating a comfortable atmosphere. As I find myself returning to this place time and time again, I’ve started envisioning my daughters’ future while observing the diverse array of people who gather here. It’s as if I can see their journey reflected in the individuals who come to the Tama River. This has sparked my curiosity about the emotions of those who gather by the waterside, prompting me to wonder about the experiences they seek, the reasons for their visits, and what they find meaningful here. Water bodies such as rivers and seas hold a special place in the hearts of people worldwide. With approximately 70% of the Earth’s surface covered in water, and humans themselves composed of about 65% water, our existence is deeply intertwined with water. It is an essential element for our survival. Throughout history, various cultures, including the Japanese, have revered rivers and seas as divine entities. Water is not only vital for sustenance but also carries spiritual significance, believed to possess the power to cleanse impurities and bring abundance. This belief transcends borders, as seen in the reverence for rivers like the Nile and the Ganges in other parts of the world. Being near water instills a sense of tranquility and healing. The sound of flowing water soothes the soul, while a refreshing drink or a relaxing bath rejuvenates the body and mind. In today’s fast-paced and stressful world, people seem instinctively drawn to the calming influence of water.
